The Credits
The main protagonist in Ausclimbing.com's story is Jason Brown. At 31, a bit
overweight and generally no longer fit, Jason decided that going back to the
climbing game he left several years before. Having got to F7c (australian Grade
27), the target was set and it was decided that going 'mad for
it' was probably the best thing to do. This resulted in a membership at
the local climbing Gym, ClimbFit, some new climbing partners (Darwin Abustan,
Pierre Arriat, Ryen Partin and some others) and many hefty evenings after work
pulling up easy stuff trying to get back to a reasonable grade. This was
followed by a multigym, exercise bike, and a house purchase within spitting
distance of Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym. Sounds drastic, sure, but 27 ain't easy
buster.
James Richards became the most regular climbing partner and one of the driving
forces behind this site. James was a drinking buddy of Jason's from when he
first arrived in Australia, but the two had never gotten out of the pub and
onto the crag. 2006 changed all that, and Viv is currently cranking very very
well despite all the beer.
The Guidebook section was originally brainstormed as an interactive mashup
on Peter Monks' quite excellent Sydney Climbing site, though of course the
original idea grew out of all proportion and became , well, the perpetually
unfinished guide that will be under development here for years to come. Peter
released his guide under the GNU Free Documentation licence, which was a brave
move, giving Ausclimbing.com a basis to build the interactive guide here.
without Peter the guidebook section would be worse than useless. Thanks Peter.
