Disclaimer
OK, it's like this. Presumably, you're an adult*. You're not stupid. You have
some sort of idea that rock climbing is perhaps a dangerous activity to
pursue.
It is. Believe us, it is.
Every time a climber sets out, that climber is taking his/her life into their
own hands. It is assumed that that every climber has some kind of idea about
this fact. Jason Brown, the current editor of this site, knows this from
bitter, bone-crunching experience. Two ground falls and one major rockfall
later, Jason considers himself incredibly lucky to still be alive, never mind
still climbing.
You should not rely on any information on this (or any other) website as an
indication of how safe you may or may not be on your chosen adventure. Where
possible we go and check things out (and pick up minor injuries on the way),
but there is no possible way we can predict every eventuality you, as
a climber, may run into. Don't risk yourselves on our account. Treat everything
you read here with a pinch of salt. Employ your own judgement. DO NOT RELY ON
THE INFORMATION ON THIS SITE IF YOUR SAFETY IS ON THE LINE. Every
climber necessarily takes their own safety into their own hands. After all,
part of climbing's appeal is that the activity is outside the bounds of
everyday cotton-wool-wrapped life.
I don't know how I can stress this more. Do Not Do Stupid Things.
More apposite, Don't do stupid things and then blame us because we 'encouraged'
you to do it. Don't do stupid things because we said they were 'safe'. Every
line you read on this site is written with the assumption that it will be read
by a climber who is aware of his or her responsibilities. We don't
encourage anyone to put their lives on the line; we give them information which
they can use should they subsequently decide to put their lives on the line.
If you crater, it's not our fault.
Any questions? ask the editor
* If you're not an adult, do me a favour. GO AND GET YOUR PARENTS. GET THEM TO
READ THIS. Thank you.
